Below are details of individuals in my family tree who experienced considerable success during their lives.  Please contact me if you have any additional information regarding any of the people below.

Luke Berry (1823 - 1891) managed the construction of Rotherham Water Works. The Rotherham Local Board of Health secured his services as resident manager and engineer, a position he retained for 36 years. Click here to learn more.

 

In the early years of the 20th Century, William Charles (1880 - 1970), his brother (Alfred) and a friend put together approximately £150 to establish the Rother Boiler Company (referred to as the Boiler Shop).

 

Harold Loukes (1912 – 1980) was a respected Author, Headmaster, Journalist, Justice of the Peace, Lecturer and Reader. Click here to learn more.

 

John Kenneth Mollekin (1924 – 2005) was responsible for building hundreds of properties in the Scarborough area.  Besides being involved in the private sector, Ken also built dozens of houses for Scarborough Council in the Eastfield, Seamer and town centre areas of the town.  He also put up many properties in the Barmoor Lane part of Scalby.

 

Johann Hermann Mulleken (Herbert Mollekin) (1863 - 1929) built Maltby Model Village, Rhodesia Village and Council estates in Thurcroft, Dalton, Rawmarsh, Shireoaks,

Cannock, Pontefract, Blackwell and South Normanton. Herbert also built Dinnington Technical School and an Elementary School in Thurcroft and Bramley. Click here to learn more.

George Slingsby (1866 - 1934) saved about £100 as a sweets salesman and in 1888 went into partnership with his younger brother, Albert Edward Slingsby (1873 - 1957), as Machinery Merchants. All of Albert Edwards' male children went into the Slingsby business at one time or another. The firm was incorporated as G. & A.E. Slingsby Limited in 1952.

 

William (Willie) Stephenson (1911 - 1988) was the only surviving Englishman ever to have saddled a winner of both the Derby and the Grand National. Click here to learn more.
