SAINT MARGARET'S CHURCH, SWINTON

I have photographed all legible headstones within the graveyard of Saint Margaret’s Church, Swinton, South Yorkshire (with the exception of a section which will be photographed in winter 2008/2009 due to access problems).

My photographs, of the graves, have been labelled in such a manner that informs the viewer, of the section, photograph number, surname or surnames of the people mentioned on the headstone, date and where applicable, the number of photographs of that particular grave. So, for example, ‘(A) 136 (Clay) - 19.06.08 (1)’ indicates that the photo was taken in Section A, is photograph number 136, that the headstone mentions the surname ‘Clay’, was taken on the 19.06.08 and is the first photo of this particular grave. Please note that the section references which I have used to split the graveyard up into are not the official section references used by the Church.

Inclusion of a name on a headstone does not necessary mean that, that person is buried there.

(use the ‘search’ facility located on the home page of the photo gallery to find headstones with specific surnames (do not attempt to search for forenames as the search results will not include these)).

Approximately 16,000 additional photos will be uploaded including shots of around 300 new graves by the end of summer.  Please view the ‘InfoCentre’ for any updates.

Current statistics: 6,461 photographs of 2,743 graves.
